- Marc Mironescu I tried to boot it with the "askmethod" option and install CentOS 6 from a mirror. I correctly configured the mirror, partitioned the drives, created my RAID 1 array, and right before the install I got an error message that Anaconda can't find "repomd.xml". This shouldn't have happened so I requested a Netinstall ISO
- Booted the netinstall
- configured everything
- right before I get to the screen where I'm supposed to select the installation type ("Basic Server", "Minimal", "Desktop" and so on), I get the same error.
- 8:27 pm If you look at my KVM screen, you can see for yourself, as I was trying once more to install CentOS 6.
- The bottom line is that I really hate to bother you with all these issues, but I also believe that basic things like KVM and remote install should work properly.
- DavidTo confirm, are you on KVM18?
- Marc Mironescu yes
- DavidI'm in the KVM and does seem responsive to mouse movements.
- Marc Mironescu how many FPS are you getting?
- because you need at least ~10 to be usable
- I get 4 at best
- DavidMy FPS is reading 13-15
- Marc Mironescu well, I am in North Carolina, you're probably in the same building with the server. But even then I should get about 9 to 10
- I can send you a screenshot
- DavidI understand you may be receiving 4 FPS, but it should still be usable, even if slightly difficult. We really don't have a method to increase the FPS speed for you. It is standard for us to provision the servers bare bones so our customers are free to customize as they wish.
- Marc Mironescu Well, if you look trough my instructions then you will see that that's exactly what I have asked for: barebones. I believe that the issue is the networking speed (I guess). I still have a dedicated server with Ubiquity Servers in Chicago, IL until the middle of the month and I get a solid 10FPS over IPMI. I also don't get any disconnections from the console or weird errors during install. Please look at my KVM screen to see what I mean.
- If you backtrack trough my CentOS 6 install, you will see that I have set up everything the right way
- I can write the networking settings again here if you want me to:
- eth0: IP 172.25.135.130 / Netmask 255.255.255.128 / no Gateway - internal
- eth1: IP 66.85.163.146 / Netmask 255.255.255.248 / Gateway 66.85.163.145
- rDNS servers:
- rDNS 1: 174.138.175.115
- rDNS 2: 174.138.175.116
- Also I've created a very simple RAID 1 array with a /boot partition, swap partition and root partition. Nothing out of the ordinary.

- Marc Mironescu hello
- I see that I have been transferred again
- Sarah CoppenIt looks like that was on accident, I apologize just one moment and I will get you back with David.
- You have been transferred to: David
- Marc Mironescu hello
- DavidHello Marc, I apologize for the disconnect earlier. I'm looking through our ticket history to try to pull more insight on this.
- Marc Mironescu do you know that I have two different HDD models installed for my RAID 1 array? I also build gaming systems and small servers for a living, but I always use the same drive models for RAID arrays due to variations in performance that can affect stability. Could this be a cause for my weird install errors?
- DavidIt shouldn't be an issue. As long as capacity matches on both hard drives, brand will not be a factor.
- I've looked through our ticketing system and I'm not able to determine why you are receiving this error. At this point, we can offer a reformat to a bare bones CentOS 6.3 install. You should be able to install what you need from that point, although you'll want to keep in mind there is no GUI on this base install.
- Marc Mironescu I didn't know that CentOS 6.3 was already available.
- DavidWe've seen a lot of problems in regards to networking with CentOS 6.1, but I unsure if the error you are seeing is still in 6.2
- Marc Mironescu I was planing on getting another server from you guys for VPS, and install Xen on it, but the poor way that remote administration works, I won't do it. Also, I had no problems installing CentOS 6.2 on a dedicated server with an identical motherboard and CPU as this one over at Ubiquity Servers, except that that server had only 12GB RAM. Please transfer me back to Mrs. Sarah, I will need to talk to her. Thank you.
- DavidWe apologize for the inconveniences you have experienced. I will re-connect you. One moment please.
- Marc Mironescu Thank you. Also, I still have my server at Ubiquity, and I can give you my IPMI username and password so that you can see that the exact same installation method and configuration works just fine.
- DavidUnfortunately, we aren't able to breakdown that specific error code. If you wish, we can still reformat to a base CentOS 6.3 setup, which we can guarantee will work.
- Marc Mironescu According to the centos.org website, CentOS 6.2 is the latest release.
- Also, that is not a long term solution for me, especially if I want to use Xen on a daily basis on this server. I can't work with 4FPS KVM, I'm sorry.
- DavidThe KVMs are not meant ot be permanent - they are only attached for 24-hours for the ISO install process. If you are installing a GUI for CentOS, you may want to consider a remote desktop option which will basically ensure cleaner framerate.
- We apologize if there was a misunderstanding in regards to the KVM.
- Marc Mironescu what remote desktop options do you guys offer?
- DavidIt is standard for our customers to connect and manage servers directly through SSH access. If they were to install a remote desktop service on their server, it would likely be an open source option. There is no specific program we endorse or promote, aside from keeping it simple with SSH.
- Marc Mironescu well, even SSH lags at times, I know this because I managed to install CentOS 6 once with the first ISO that you guys provided. Unfortunately that one was defaulting to a minimal install, and I just didn't want to dig package by package and look for what cPanel needed to be functional. But yes, at times SSH was so slow that I was typing, and then I was waiting for my writing to appear on the screen.
- Could you please transfer me to Mrs. Sarah now?
- DavidIf you were typing in the terminal with the KVM, then I could understand some lag with typing. However, directly connecting to the server via SSH should not result in any lag whatsoever. We have never seen a case where this had happened. Either way, I will transfer you back to Sarah C. Thank you.
- You have been transferred to: Sarah Coppen
- Sarah CoppenHello Marc, what can I do for you?
- Marc Mironescu I assume that you have a transcript of my conversation with Mr. David?
- Sarah CoppenThat is correct.
- Marc Mironescu He couldn't really tell me why the installer doesn't work as it is supposed to, and why KVM is dead slow for me. The server is simply not usable for me.
- I would respectfully ask you for a full refund on the grounds that the product is not usable.
- A setup like I wanted to install takes 3 hours of work
- Sarah CoppenIn order to cancel this server, we do request that you send an email to [email protected] making note of your request.
- Marc Mironescu I have a server setup like this in Chicago, IL
- Sarah CoppenOur servers are typically non-refundable so in order to inquire about the possibility of a refund it will require further research with my manager who will be in the office tomorrow morning. I can follow up with you on the status of this tomorrow by responding to your email once it has been received.
- Marc Mironescu Well, I could not use th product. I can use other means to request a refund as follows:
- Sarah CoppenI understand completely.
- We will need you to send the cancellation request email and I will be more than happy to look into what we will be able to do for you.
- I will be able to follow up with you tomorrow afternoon to let you know if this is something that I can have processed.
- Marc Mironescu 1) I can call Chase and dispute the charge.
- 2) I can post all the information that I have so far to Web Hosting Talk
- 3) I can write the Better Business Bureau
- I can do all this in under one hour
- Sarah CoppenWe are more than happy to look into offering this refund for you but again since it will require management approval and my manager is out of the office until tomorrow morning, I will have to follow up with you tomorrow regarding this.
- Marc Mironescu I understand, and believe I don't take any pleasure in this. I just wasted 2 days time trying to make this work, and I just don't have any time left.
- What information do you need from me in order to process this?
- Sarah CoppenI completely understand.
- You will need to send an email to [email protected] just stating that you wish to cancel your services.
- Marc Mironescu I sure will. Thank you. And I again, I would like to say that I don't like to say this, but according to PCI Compliance Regulations (I engage in e-commerce as well) any product, tangible or not, has to be refundable if it is not what was promised or if it's not usable at all. If you read the chat transcript with Mr. David you will see that he didn't really offer any solutions that would have made my product usable. Thank you.
- Sarah CoppenI understand and will do everything we can to accommodate your request once we recieve your cancellation request email.
- Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
- Marc Mironescu No, that's all. I will email you my request. Thank you.
- Sarah CoppenThank you for contacting us, I hope you have a great evening. Goodbye.
